Reusing an event site means updating an existing event and editing it with new details while keeping the same event link and registration data.
Duplicating an event site creates a brand-new event using the original event as a template, without copying attendees, orders, or reports.
In most cases, duplicating an event site is the recommended option.
Option 1: Reuse an Existing Event Site
Reusing an event site keeps the same eventwebsite, regisration list and allows you to update Event Details
When to Reuse an Event Site
The event is ongoing or continuous
You are only updating:
Event date or time
Location
Speakers or agenda
You want to keep:
Existing registrations
Embedded forms or integrations
IMPORTANT: If you do not want to keep existing registrations, please delete all registrations and orders before collecting new registrations as it will affect your new registrations, orders, capacity and ticket limits.
Things to Keep in Mind When Reusing
Previous registrations remain connected
Reports may include past attendee data
Capacity limits and ticket settings may be affected by past orders and registrations
Not recommended if ticketing or registration structure changes
Option 2: Duplicate an Event Site (Recommended)
Duplicating an event site creates a new event with the same setup, design, and structure, but without copying any registration data.
When to Duplicate an Event Site
Duplicate your event site if:
The event is running on a new date or time
You need a fresh registration list
You are changing:
Ticket types or pricing
Registration questions
Capacity limits
You want clean reporting for each event
The event is paid or ticketed
This is the safest option for most events.
What Gets Copied When You Duplicate an Event Site
When duplicating an event site, the following are copied:
Event design and layout
Page content and sections
Registration type and setup
Ticket types and pricing (editable)
Payment Setup (currency)
Custom Form Question
Registration Confirmation
Email templates
Share Image
Online Payment / Stripe Setup
Think of this as copying the setup, not the data.
What Does Not Get Copied
The following are not carried over:
Attendees Lists
Orders or payments
Payment Coupon
Donation Setup
Offline Payment Setup
Payment Settings (Currency Type, Fees - Event/Host pays)
Advanced Registration Settings
SMS Text Templates
Default Country Phone Number
Attendee List Email Notification
Reports or analytics from the original event
This ensures each event starts with a clean slate.
You can always export your past attendee list from a past event and import the attendee list into your new event.
How to Duplicate an Event Site
Go to Manage Event
Select Duplicate This Event
Once you have made a duplicate of your event, the new event is labeled as βcopyβ. We recommend making the following updates to your duplicated event:
Edit Event Details (name, date, location, etc) under Setup > Event Details
Edit Registration Page Header under Setup > Registration > Design/Text
Edit EventCreate URL under Setup > Website
For details, please see support.eventcreate.com/en/articles/2979178-how-to-duplicate-your-event
The duplicated event will appear as a separate event with its own URL.
Re-use EventCreate URL:
If you want to use the old event URL on your new event, you just need to change the URL on your old event, to make it available to use on your new event website.
To change your URL, go into your Event Dashboard > Setup > Website > URL. Make changes to your URL and click Update URL to save.
Re-use Custom Domain:
If you have a custom domain, to remove your custom domain from a past event or to update your custom domain and assign to another EventCreate event, please go to eventcreate.com/dashboard/tools and click on Custom Domains.
Here, you can remove the custom domain from a past event and/or assign it to new event.
Keep in mind that your custom domain and SSL certificate is good for one year. The custom domain fee applies per domain per year.
Why We Recommend Duplicating Instead of Reusing
Reusing an event site can cause:
Previous attendees appearing in new reports
Capacity limits being reached incorrectly
Tickets showing as sold out unexpectedly
Confusing analytics and attendance tracking
Attendee email or reminder issues
Duplicating avoids these issues and keeps your data clean.
Best Practice Recommendation
If your event has a new date, new attendees, or any form of ticketing, duplicate the event site instead of reusing it.
Duplicating prevents registration confusion, protects your data, and saves time for everyone involved.
